It’s hard to come up with things to write about and actually follow through with them. I tend to get lots of ideas, mostly useless. But they live on for a little while, and then I tire of them and they go in the lost and found.

This time, I hope to actually follow through, though. This time, I don’t really want to write about ideas or advice, but just document my journey.

A few years ago I listened to a podcast called StartUp that I really liked. In it, Alex Blumberg, the founder of Gimlet Media, documents his journey of starting a podcasting company (later named Gimlet). It was a funny, meta approach to a documentary, since his company only had that one show when he started.

“Start a podcasting company by making a podcast about starting a podcasting company.”

6 months ago I developed a very small app called coverletter.me, which is still alive today. I’ve spent my evenings the last few months polishing it off a bit and modifying things here and there. Now I want to try and take it to the next level, though.

This blog post series will be my attempt at documenting my journey of building coverletter.me.

I often have ideas about things to change, thoughts on processes if I were to start a business again as well as wanting to retroactively validate and document results. I want to use the app as my live reference for doing all of that in this series. Hopefully then I have something to commit me to it and prevent my thoughts from going in the lost and found.

Let’s begin.
